On 13 July, Professor Erik Meers (Ghent University) was at the EU parliament to give his two cents on how to increase EU's resilience in terms of agriculture and resources.
He brought forward facts from research projects such as ReNu2Cycle but also NutriBudget, GreenHood, BioSoilutions, ReJuice and STRATUS.
Spoiler alert - there is a lot more potential on home-grown recycled resources that can replace imports of virgin materials than you may think.
These European projects (and the partners involved) have been actively collaborating via the European Sustainable Nutrient Initiative (ESNI) in order to make the transition towards more circular agriculture work. ESNI is about promoting a circular economy by recovering and applying nutrients to the benefits of the agriculture, the industry and the communities within the European Union.
