On Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 September 2026, the ReNu2Cycle project partners gathered in Ghent, Belgium, for their annual project meeting.
The first day focused on project progress and core objectives. Discussions covered topics like supply chain mapping, legislative frameworks, business model innovation, sustainability assessment, Nutrient Platform initiatives, stakeholder engagement within ongoing Living Lab activities, etc.
Partners wrapped up the working sessions by playing the Nutrient Futures serious game, exploring the key opportunities and challenges in commercialising recycling-derived fertilizers (RDFs). The evening concluded with a relaxed dinner and social event, offering everyone a great chance to reconnect.
Day two featured a site visit to project partner Inagro (Roeselare, BELGIUM), offering dynamic hands-on insights into agricultural innovation:
- An introduction to the production cycles, risks, and cultivation challenges of button mushrooms.
- Observations of fruit and vegetable crops—including strawberries—fertilized using RDFs, alongside an innovative "hydroleek" setup demonstrating hydroponic cultivation for traditional soil crops.
- Aquaculture & Insects: a tour of specialized facilities housing sturgeons, black soldier flies, and mealworms.
- A visit to Inagro’s pilot and small-scale digesters to understand their role in ongoing research in anaerobic digestion.
